The Phone Call
The first step is to phone the hypnotherapist, you will usually be asked a few questions by the therapist about your specific problem and then invited for a consultation. At this stage you may want to ask the hypnotherapist some questions, for example
Do they offer a free consultation?
How much will a session cost?
How many sessions will I need? (this may only be possible to answer during a consultation)
The Consultation
Most hypnotherapists offer a free consultation, this for the therapist to find out specific information about the problem and also an opportunity for you both to meet and see if you feel comfortable working with one another. The therapeutic relationship between you is more effective if you like and feel comfortable with the therapist. During the first session or free consultation you will usually be advised of the number of sessions you will need and the costs of the sessions. Have a look around the consulting room for certifications or qualifications that may be wall mounted or table mounted, if you do not see any you can always ask to see proof of their qualification and public liability insurance certificate.
Practice Environments
In the UK many Hypnotherapist work from their own homes, this is perfectly normal and you will receive the same level of expertise as you would from someone working from a rented room in a health centre. Some of the best therapist in the UK work from their home office. It is important they you feel comfortable within the environment and that you have toilet facilities available should you need them.
